Strong westerly winds possible in the wake of low pressure and passage of cold front overnight Saturday and early Sunday morning.
Friday will be mild with widely scattered showers during the morning and becoming partly cloudy with heavier showers and possibly thunderstorms mid to late afternoon as the cold front approaches. Skies break late in the afternoon and early evening. Hi temperature around 75.
Overnight Friday into early Saturday morning will be mostly cloudy and dry with a low around 50, then a chance of rain redeveloping Saturday morning which may become moderate at times during the course of the day. A powerful short-wave trough, and it’s associated low pressure, are forecast to rapidly approach from the west bringing in another period of rain or wet snow late Saturday overnight into early Sunday morning. The center of this low-pressure is forecast to be in the vicinity of NE PA by 2AM Sunday morning; then move east over or just north of our area around 4AM Sunday. Very strong west and northwest winds along with colder air will move in behind the low as it quickly moves off the Mass coastline. Any remaining showers will mix with or change to wet snow before ending Sunday evening. Winds west-northwest 20 MPH could gust to 40 and 50 MPH times during the day on Sunday as temperatures drop though the 30’s. Winds calm and skies break later Sunday afternoon and evening.
